The first rush of college-bound students made their way to Iowa City Monday, the first day that students at the University of Iowa could move into their dorms.
"Last year it was pretty bare the first couple of days. This year, I've noticed there's about three or four guys on our floor," said sophomore Grant Voshell.
On Tuesday, students who made an appointment to move into their respective dorms are allowed to move in. The majority of students move in starting on Wednesday and Thursday.
On the east side, Clinton Street will be closed to one-way traffic going south from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. For these two days Clinton Street will be closed beginning at the corner of Church and Dubuque Streets and continuing on Clinton Street until Bloomington.
The west side of the street will be for through traffic, and the east side will be for those who are unloading. All the meters on Clinton Street will be blocked for these two days as well.
All students will be asked to check in at a booth to receive a tag for their car when entering the residence hall neighborhoods. Once cars are unloaded, vehicles will need to move away from the halls. Parking is plentiful at the Hawk Lots with shuttle buses running all day.
The last of the students return on Saturday. Classes start at Iowa on Monday, Aug. 22.
"I'm pretty excited to hang out with him (my roommate) for a couple of days before classes start," said Voshell.
