MINNEAPOLIS -- Search teams are to resume looking for a University of Iowa student who is missing after he fell 100 yards during a semester-abroad trip in India.
The Star Tribune reported (http://bit.ly/nxzc2x ) that 20-year-old Tom Plotkin of Minnetonka was presumed dead after falling Saturday while hiking above the Ganges River. The search for him is expected to resume Sunday.
Family friend Phil Forve told the newspaper Plotkin was hiking on a trail with five students near Munsiyari, India, when he twisted his ankle and fell down a steep drop to a boulder-strewn ledge.
Forve said Plotkin is a junior international business major at the University of Iowa. He has enrolled for a semester in the National Outdoor Leadership School of Lander, Wyo.
Plotkin's mother, Elizabeth Brenner, said her son left for India in August.
