UI homecoming events begin this weekend

Although the University of Iowa's homecoming parade, concert and football game are still a week away, homecoming festivities begin this weekend with a 5K run and an outdoor diversity festival.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are set to take on Michigan State in Kinnick Stadium for the homecoming football game Oct. 5. But, before that, the UI is offering a week of homecoming activities, starting Sunday with a 5K race beginning at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and the UI Celebrating Cultural Diversity Festival, planned from noon to 5 p.m. in Hubbard Park.
Other events for this year's UI Homecoming, themed “Countless Hawkeyes, One Spirit,” include a blood drive, alumni dinner, downtown parade and Third Eye Blind concert.
