U.S. Marshals arrest two wanted in connection with fatal Cedar Rapids shooting

CEDAR RAPIDS - U.S. marshals have arrested two men federal authorities and Cedar Rapids police were looking for in connection with a fatal shooting on G Avenue NW two weeks ago.
According to federal court documents, Derek Hughes-Doby, 28, and Cecil B. Howell, 45, were charged this week in U.S. District Court with being unlawful drug users in possession of firearms. There were no further details about the arrests.
The men and two others arrested last week on the same charges were at the house where Bryan Ahmaad Edwards, 32, was fatally shot in the 1000 block of G Avenue NW on Sept. 10.
Edwards was taken to the hospital but died in surgery, Cedar Rapids police said last week.
Federal documents show that a witness described Hughes-Doby and Howell, along with Keith D. Moore, Jr., 30, and Treundes L. Howell, 28, as coming to the house and then leaving after shots were fired.
U.S. Magistrate Jon Scoles ruled last week to keep Moore and Treundes Howell in custody pending trial. Hughes-Doby has a detention hearing Monday, and Cecil Howell waived his hearing and remains in custody pending trial.
A witness said before she heard shots, a white SUV showed up at the house, and four men got out and went toward the house 'where the victim was eventually found,” according to an affidavit.
After shots were heard, the men returned to the vehicle and left. Investigators found a slide-lock mechanism for a .22-caliber gun at the crime scene.
When police stopped the SUV shortly after the shooting, they found a .22-caliber gun outside the men's vehicle.
Court documents show two 40-caliber Glocks were found in the vehicle, along with marijuana. All four men admitted to using marijuana and said they used the Glocks at a shooting range earlier that day.
Cecil Howell told police he was shooting the .22-caliber gun that belonged to Moore.
Each defendant faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
