The U.S. House voted unanimous voice approval Wednesday of a resolution honoring Norman Borlaug for his humanitarian efforts to feed and save millions of people from starvation and malnutrition.
The Iowa House delegation sponsored the resolution about Borlaug, who grew up on a family farm near Cresco. Borlaug died in Dallas on Sept. 12 at age 95.
The resolution lauded Borlaug for his achievements in developing hardy breeds of wheat and plants that allowed poor Third World countries to feed millions.
“Dr. Borlaug's humanitarian works have made him an American hero who will never be forgotten,” the resolution said of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize winner.
