Federal authorities are looking for two men charged with unlawfully possessing firearms who also were at a house where a homicide occurred Sept. 10 in Cedar Rapids.
The victim in the fatal shooting was identified Thursday as Bryan Ahmaad Edwards, 32. He was found with a gunshot wound at 8:07 p.m. Sept. 10 in the 1000 block of G Avenue NW. Edwards was taken to a hospital but died in surgery.
A witness at the scene identified the two wanted men as being with two others who came to a house on G Avenue NW. They left in a sport utility vehicle after shots were fired, according to unsealed court documents revealed Wednesday.
Keith D. Moore, Jr., 30, and Treundes L. Howell, 28, were charged Tuesday with unlawful drug users in possession of firearms. A judge ruled Friday to keep them in custody pending trial.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Steve Young, in a news release, said the other two men face the same charges, Derek Anthony Hughes-Doby, 28, and Cecil B. Howell, 45. They are the two being sought.
A witness said that before shots were fired, a white SUV showed up at the house and four men got out and went toward the house 'where the victim was eventually found,” according to an affidavit.
The witness said after shots were heard, the men returned to the SUV and left. Investigators found a slide-lock mechanism for a .22-caliber gun next to a large pool of blood near the house where the body was.
When police stopped the SUV shortly after the homicide, they found a .22-caliber gun outside the SUV.
Court documents show two 40-caliber Glocks were found inside in the SUV, along with marijuana. The .22-caliber gun and marijuana were found outside the SUV. All four men admitted to using marijuana and said they used the Glocks at a shooting range in Swisher earlier that day.
Cecil Howell told police he was shooting the .22-caliber gun that belonged to Moore.
Each defendant, if convicted, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
