LINN COUNTY — Two people were killed, and three people were hospitalized, following an accident involving multiple vehicles Thursday afternoon east of Toddville.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 3:44 p.m., emergency units from several county and municipal sources rushed to the scene after being alerted of an accident at the intersection of County Home and North Troy Roads.
Police said they arrived to see the end result of a three-vehicle collision. According to police, they determined through investigation that a car and truck had been stopped on County Home Road waiting to turn onto North Troy Road. The car, which was located behind the truck at rest, was then rear ended by another truck and pushed into the truck ahead of it, according to police.
This car had five occupants, according to police. Two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, while three occupants with life threatening injuries were transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics via Lifeguard Ambulance, according to police.
The driver and only occupant of the truck that caused the chain-reaction crash was identified by police as a 35-year-old man from Cedar Rapids. The driver and only occupant of the truck in the front of the car was identified by police as a 16-year-old boy from Robins. Both truck drivers were uninjured in the collision.
The names of the individuals involved are being withheld at this time.
