Two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle accident on Mt Vernon Road Friday afternoon.
According to a media release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders from Bertram, Area Ambulance, and Linn County rescue and sheriff's deputies were called to respond to an accident with injuries at approximately 1:07 p.m. Friday.
Officials say that deputies arrived on scene near the intersection of Mt Vernon and Squaw Creek Roads just west of Highway 13. After investigation, they determined that a 2004 Ford Ranger driven by Billie Detweiler, 85, of Cedar Rapids had been traveling west on Mt Vernon Road when he began to turn south onto Squaw Creek Road. According to the release, he turned into the path of an oncoming 2009 Chevy Impala driven by Connie Cimaglia, 56, of Anamosa, who had been traveling in the opposite lane, causing the accident.
According to the release, both Cimaglia and Detweiler had been wearing their seatbelts at the time of accident, and they were transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
After the incident, Detweiler was cited for failure to yield upon left turn, according to the release.
