A two-car crash at the intersection of Ely Road SW and Muirfield Drive SW Wednesday night sent two passengers to a nearby hospital.
Officers received a call about the crash around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The crash involved a car and a sport-utility vehicle. The driver of the SUV told police he was headed east on Ely Road and the driver of the car was headed north on Muirfield Drive.
While neither of the vehicles' drivers suffered injuries, two passengers in the car were taken to a nearby hospital. Officials were unsure of the extent of their injuries.
The driver's side of the car was completely smashed inward and its airbags were deployed. The SUV sustained significant damage to its front bumper and hood.
Traffic backed up for several blocks on either side of the accident on Ely Road. Dozens of cars had to wait until officers began ushering traffic. When a tow truck eventually removed the car from the road, traffic began moving normally.
Officials said details of how the crash occurred are still under investigation.
