UPDATE: Jamal M. Baylis, 28, and Lemarkis D. Hobson, 25, are charged with first-degree robbery in the incident that ended after a police chase down Interstate 380 Tuesday night.
Baylis, of 1803 C St. SW, and Hobson, of 155 14th Ave. SW, were arrested in the 1000 block of First Avenue SW after the car driven by Baylis ran over spiked “stop sticks” laid out by Cedar Rapids police.
The incident began about 7 p.m. when the two pulled an air pistol to rob Tyler Daubenmeier at 1500 First St. in Marion. They fled the scene with Daubenmeier's wallet and cell phone, leading police through Hiawatha to I-380 and south to Cedar Rapids.
Baylis and Hobson are also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and a drug tax stamp violation after the pair threw a pound of marijuana from the car during the chase. Baylis is also charged with driving while barred and attempting to elude police.
Both men remain in the Linn County Jail.
Baylis' bail is set at $83,000, Hobson's at $70,000, both cash.
Officers from Cedar Rapids, Hiawatha and the Linn County Sheriff's Office search a vehicle involved in a chase after the car was stopped near the intersection of 10th Street and First Avenue SW on Tuesday night. (Jim Slosiarek/The Gazette)
