Two City High wrestling team members remain in the hospital after seven people were injured Saturday when a school bus taking the Iowa City High junior-varsity wrestling team to a meet rolled over.
The bus was taking the team to a meet in New London when the bus lost control and rolled over at about 7:05 a.m. on Highway 218 in Riverside.
Freshman team coach Richard Kunc said he believed two wrestlers remained in the hospital as of Monday, but would not elaborate. He added about a dozen players are not currently able to participate with the team.
There were fourteen wrestlers on the bus and the bus driver was among those injured. There were no fatalities from the injury.
The accident is still under investigation under the Washington County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff's office did say icy roads could have been a factor. There were five other rollovers in Washington County on Saturday
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Department, an Iowa City School District bus went into the median and onto its side near the intersection of U.S. Highway 218 and 160th Street in rural Washington County, south of Riverside. Students on the bus were moved to a Highland Community School District bus and transported to an area hospital for evaluation. (Matt Nelson/The Gazette)
