Authorities say two people were arrested in Iowa City after merchants called to report the pair were passing counterfeit money.
A news release from the Iowa City Police Department says counterfeit bills totaling about $2,000 were taken from the two after they were arrested on Saturday.
They were identified as 20-year-old Christopher Carter, of Chicago; and 18-year-old Fatima Amin, of Coralville. Each faces a felony charge of forgery and a misdemeanor charge of theft.
A Johnson County jailer said Carter remained in custody on Monday, pending $6,000 bail. Amin has left custody. A public phone listing for her could not be found.
Online court records don't list the cases.
