The same couple arrested for supplying alcohol to two teenage girls last month was arrested Wednesday after a high speed chase outside Mount Vernon.
The driver, Jontese Ware, 31, of Cedar Rapids took off on foot after his car entered a ditch on Highway 30. He didn't get far before he was apprehended by police. Police also arrested his passenger, Shannon Butterbaugh, 35, of Cedar Rapids, for interference with officials acts.
In addition to charges for driving with a suspended license, attempting to elude, and numerous traffic violations, Ware was charged with violating a no contact order with Butterbaugh. However, officials with the Linn County Sheriff's Office say it doesn't appear Butterbaugh was with Ware against her will.
Ware and Butterbaugh
were also arrested last month after authorities say Ware assaulted Butterbaugh and punched her daughter in the face. As the argument continued, Ware's 14-year-old daughter cut herself in the stomach with a kitchen knife, because “she wanted everything to stop,” according to the police report.
