Smulekoff's Home Store will make security upgrades after more than $15,000 in merchandise was stolen from its warehouse last week.
Burglars stole 19 TVs and two recliners from the warehouse at 411 Sixth Ave. SE sometime between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday, police said. An employee who arrived for work realized the items were missing.
Police suspect multiple people were involved, but no arrests have been made. Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said it appeared the burglars broke out a window to get inside.
Smulekoff's spokeswoman Theresa Blair said the warehouse has surveillance, but it did not catch the crime. As a result of the break-in, she said some changes will be made.
“The new windows that are being put in will have wire mesh, and additional windows will be alarmed,” Blair said.
Hamblin said investigators have checked pawn shops and will follow any leads that develop. Several different brands of TVs were taken, ranging from 40 to 55 inches, according to the police report.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call police at (319) 286-5491.
