TODAY'S WEATHER — Cooler, with scattered showers and isolated storms. High 59, low 47.
MEYER, GRIESBAUM TALK SETTLEMENT — A former University of Iowa field hockey coach and her partner, a former associate athletic director, say they aren't gunning for UI Athletic Director Gary Barta to be fired, despite his role in discrimination claims that resulted in a $6.5 million settlement last week. But Tracey Griesbaum and Jane Meyer say there are deeper gender biases at the UI — and not just in athletics. SENATE CONFIRMS BRANSTAD — On his 8,167th day as the nation's longest-serving governor, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad easily won confirmation Monday as the next ambassador to China and will resign Wednesday to clear the way for his lieutenant to assume the top job. BUILDING NAMED FOR HARRISES — It was more than 50 years ago that members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids voted in favor of selling a church-owned plot to Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris. The issue was controversial at the time, with the Harrises being black, but Supervisor Stacey Walker compared that 1961 vote to one made Monday, when the Linn County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved naming the county's future Public Health and Child and Youth Development Services building in honor of the Harris family. SOLON STAR MISSING SPORTS — Normally, Josie Durr wouldn't be at this soccer practice. It's Thursday, May 18 and if things had gone as planned, she would have been high jumping at the state championships, an event she had finished third in at the Drake Relays just a few weeks ago. She has an injury, to her leg, one that is causing her to walk with a bit of a limp and robbing her of the postseason in two of her favorite sports — track and soccer. QUOTABLE — 'I felt privileged to have been able to be in the service and be hopefully of some use. I have the feeling to this day that I probably still owe a lot more than I've ever returned.' World War II veteran Asher Schroeder, speaking to a joint meeting of area Rotary clubs at the DoubleTree hotel and convention center in Cedar Rapids
