FIRE DISPLACES RESIDENTS — One firefighter received a minor hand injury and an apartment building was severely damaged as the Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded Monday to a two-alarm fire at the Cambridge Townhomes apartment complex, 2135 North Towne Court NE. SCHOOL CLOSINGS STILL PLANNED — Ten months into an 18-month planning process, the Cedar Rapids Community School District's facilities planning committee has proposed multiple scenarios for the future of the district's schools — but all of them include the district shedding at least eight of its 21 elementary schools. COACHING CHANGES — A pair of local schools are looking for new coaches. Linn-Mar girls' basketball coach Jaime Brandt is leaving her alma mater for Iowa City Liberty. Principal Scott Kibby announced Monday morning that the new high school has hired Brandt, who had coached Linn-Mar the past three seasons. And Cedar Rapids Jefferson head wrestling coach Matt Orton confirmed that he has resigned as head wrestling coach, saying he's turning his attention to his own family. Jefferson announced the move in a news release Monday.
