Truck and semi collide on C Street SW

UPDATED: A delivery truck slammed into the back end of a semi-trailer truck Wednesday in southwest Cedar Rapids, injuring the driver.

First responders rushed to the scene on C Street near 41st Avenue Drive SW around 1:20 p.m. Both vehicles were northbound when the delivery truck rear-ended the semi, which was stopped and waiting to turn left, police said.

The investigating officer at the scene said the male delivery truck driver apparently lost consciousness because of low blood sugar and did not slow down. He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the semi was not hurt in the wreck. Names of the men involved were not immediately released.

C Street SW was closed for more than 30 minutes while authorities cleaned up the wreckage.
