Trial set for Iowa City shooting

The trial for the man accused of killing 20-year-old Kylie Jo Perkins has been set for March.
The involuntary manslaughter trial for Alajuwon Johnson, 26, - who entered a written plea of not guilty in Johnson County District Court last week - is set for March 29 at 9 a.m. A pretrial conference is set for March 18 at 1:45 p.m.
Police said Johnson was visiting Perkins at her apartment at 1527 Aber Ave. when they mishandled a gun he had illegally brought inside. According Johnson County District Court documents, Perkins was fatally shot in the chest with a 9 mm Ruger semi-automatic pistol that Johnson had snatched away from her.
Johnson is being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $68,000 bond.
