Trial reset to November for Tama County man accused of killing parents

May. 8, 2014 5:53 pm
A federal trial is reset to November for a man accused of killing his parents with a machete in Tama County.
A judge reset the trial for Gordon Lasley Jr., 25, to Nov. 3, in U.S. District Court as requested by a prosecutor and his attorney. The previous trial date was June 9, which both attorneys said wasn't enough time for them to prepare for this 'complex' case.
Lasley Jr. was charged in February with two counts of first-degree murder. He is accused of killing his parents, Gordon Lasley Sr. and Kim Lasley, with a machete in their home on the Meskwaki Settlement Feb. 5, according to a criminal complaint.
According to a criminal complaint, Lasley's girlfriend, his older brother and his girlfriend told authorities Lasley Jr. had confessed to the homicides.
Meskwaki Nation police officers found the bodies of the parents in their home. Officers also located a machete lying on a couch with apparent blood on it.
If convicted, Lasley Jr. faces life in prison.
