Iowa City Police arrested two Johnson County Residents on drug charges after their vehicle was pulled over for having an incorrect license plate and part of a third brake light out.
Reports indicate that drugs including methamphetamine and prescription drugs were located in a vehicle driven by Edward T. Neuzil, 46, of 3539 Bayertown Road, Riverside after the traffic stop was initiated by an officer at 6:03 p.m. Friday.
Neuzil is accused of possession of a controlled substance after officers allegedly located a plastic bottle containing methamphetamine in his front pants pocket and aluminum foil packets containing burnt methamphetamine residue in his wallet. Neuzil is also accused of driving while barred, Iowa City Police said.
The passenger in Neuzil's vehicle, Rena M. Kelley, 46, of 808 East Bloomington Street, Iowa City, was searched after officers observed her putting something under her seat.
Officers say they located numerous prescription pills including Acetaminophen and Oxycodone in improper containers, foils containing burnt methamphetamine residue and hollow pens used to smoke methamphetamine in Neuzil's purse.
Neuzil was then arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and prescription drug offenses.
Iowa City Police records indicate that Kelley was previously convicted for cocaine possession on September 20, 2006.
Neuzil and Kelley were being held at the Johnson County Jail on Saturday. Neuzil was later released on his own recognizance and Kelley was released to the Iowa Department of Corrections.
