Traffic has been reduced to a single lane on the Highway 965 bridge over the Iowa River in Johnson County. Alternating traffic is controlled by traffic signals and drivers should be prepared to stop, according to a Johnson County news release.
Once structural deficiencies were discovered, officials placed immediate weight restrictions on the bridge. The deficiencies were found on Wednesday by maintenance employees performing normal updates.
Lengthy traffic delays are expected, especially during the morning and afternoon commutes, and travelers are encouraged to consider alternate routes.
The bridge is also restricted to a maximum gross vehicle weight of 20 tons.
