PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (Reuters) - Three teenage boys were wounded on Wednesday after shots were fired outside Brashear High School in Pittsburgh, according to Pittsburgh police.
Paramedics took all three - a 16-year old and two aged 17, according to police - to two area hospitals. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening, said Mark Bocian, the Pittsburgh EMS chief. The shooting occurred a block away from the school, Bocian said.
One boy was grazed in the head with a bullet, another was grazed in the neck and shoulder and the third was shot in the leg and foot, said Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard.
Police were still looking for the shooter or shooters, Bocian said.
Local television station WPXI aired video of a student who said she witnessed the incident.
"All I heard were gunshots. I just thought it was kids playing around. My friend said, 'A kid is laying on the ground, and there is blood.' Everyone started running," senior Krystal Henson told the station.
Another local television station, KDKA, reported on Wednesday that the wounded students ran into the high school seeking cover after being shot.
KDKA, a CBS affiliate, reported that all three students are in stable condition.
Police and canine units were searching the nearby woods for suspects, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported, citing an Allegheny County dispatch supervisor.
Brashear High School is the city's largest high school by enrollment with 1,416 students, according to the Pittsburgh Public School district.
Part of Brashear also houses South Hills Middle School, which has 580 students, the Post-Gazette reported.
