Three plead not guilty in Marengo murder
The three people charged with the first-degree murder of Curtis Bailey filed not guilty pleas in writing this week in Iowa County District Court.
Denise Frei, 43, of Marengo, Bailey's common-law wife, and Frei's son, Jacob Hilgendorf, and Hilgendorf's friend Jessica Dayton, both 19 and of Belle Plaine, are accused of killing Bailey, 33, July 19 at his Marengo home.
Hilgendorf didn't waive his right to a speedy trial, and a trial is set for Oct. 12. A pretrial hearing will be 10 a.m. Oct. 1.
No trial dates have been set for Frei and Dayton.
All three remain in the Iowa County Jail, each on a $500,000 bond.
Marengo police haven't released any details of the crime.
