More cases of mumps have been confirmed in Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that three more cases of mumps were identified in the northwestern part of the state - two in Sioux City and one in Plymouth County. Earlier this month, eight cases of mumps were confirmed in the same section of Iowa. The total number of cases is now 11.
Iowa public health officials recommend residents receive two doses of the MMR vaccine, or the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine. Symptoms of mumps include fever, aches, fatigue and swollen salivary glands.
Iowa public health department director Dr. Patricia Quinlisk urges residents to become aware of symptoms and how the virus is spread.
