Three car accident on Highway 30 near Mount Vernon

One woman was in critical condition following a three car accident on Highway 30 that happened east of Mount Vernon on Friday. A van was attempting to turn when its rear was struck by another van transporting some disabled people. That collision caused the woman's eastbound car to lose control and rollover.
Billie Jean Johnson, 74, of Waterloo was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Passenger, Billie Carroll Johnson, 81, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids following the accident where she was treated and released. No one in either van was seriously injured.
The two vans collided at Irish Road near John Deere when Thomas Towry, 34, of Mt. Vernon made a left hand turn to go north. Towry was arrested for driving with a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident. Richard Alger, 43, a passenger in Towry's van was arrested for driving with a license under suspension, and possession of a controlled substance.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office was still investigating the accident which happened a little before 6 p.m.
