Three arrested outside night club Sunday

Three Cedar Rapids men were arrested early Sunday as officers responded to a large fight outside Club Universe, 616 2nd Avenue SE.

Kevin Herring, 21, of 2107 Blairs Ferry Road NE, was arrested in connection with public intoxication, interference with official acts and disorderly conduct charges and Sherman Washington, 37, of 1718 7th Ave. SE, and Anthony Cortez, 21, of 435 Ashton Place NE, were  arrested in connection with a disorderly conduct charge.

Officers found several people yelling outside the night club about 1:15 a.m. Sunday and Herring and Washington were fighting each other, according to a police report. As police took Washington into custody, Herring started fighting with others and refused to place his arms behind his back for officers.

In a separate area, Cortez was yelling at several others and attempted to get them to fight him, according to a police report.
