IOWA CITY (AP) - A Johnson County woman faces jail time or community service for repeatedly shirking jury duty.
According to a ruling filed in Johnson County District Court on Monday, Jensina Endresen failed to appear for jury duty on several occasions between July 2009 and last month. She was given a deferral once and said her father had a stroke another time.
Endresen was ordered to appear March 1 or face punishment for contempt of court. She failed to appear, and was arrested later that day.
Endresen was given 10 days in jail or 40 hours of community service. She has until May 28 to complete the community service or report to jail on June 8.
A message left Tuesday for her attorney, public defender Dennis Cohen of Iowa City, was not immediately returned.
