SUTLIFF - With no Sutliff Bridge to celebrate, an annual Labor Day celebration took on a different meaning this year.
The Sutliff Bridge Authority's street dance was not a fundraiser, but a way to say thanks for the support over the years.
Last year's flood put part of the bridge into the Cedar River. The authority hopes to rebuild the 111-year-old span soon.
“Everybody's who's down here has some special memory related to that bridge,” said Randy Howell with the Sutliff Bridge Authority. “When it went in, it broke a lot of hearts and still is today, not having it there to enjoy and have our kids enjoy.”
The authority says federal and state funding will cover the flood-damaged portions of the bridge. It's collecting donations to rebuild or replace any other damage.
