A suspect in the sexual assault of a northeast Cedar Rapids woman was arrested Sunday in Peoria, police said.
Darryl C. Tyson, 21, was arrested on a warrant charging him with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree sexual assault, and second-degree theft, Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said.
Extradition proceedings are under way, and Tyson, whose address isn't known, remains in jail in Peoria.
Police suspect Tyson is the man who forced his way into a home along Oakland Road NE across from Daniels Park the afternoon of May 5. The intruder sexually assaulted the home's occupant, a woman in her eighties, and escaped in her car.
The car was recovered in Hiawatha May 10.
Cedar Rapids police identified Tyson as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant, according to Hamblin. He was arrested Sunday by Peoria police.
Tyson also faces charges of aggravated battery against a peace officer, two counts of resisting arrest and two counts of obstructing justice/destroying evidence in Peoria County, Ill., authorities said.
