Suspect arrested in April 17 Cedar Rapids shooting

A man was arrested Monday night in connection with an April shooting, police said.

At around 8:20 p.m. Monday, Cedar Rapids police made a traffic stop at Wilson Avenue and 14th Street SW. The driver was identified as Bevon Forbes, 19, of Cedar Rapids.

When officers searched his car, they found a .32 caliber revolver. Forbes was initially arrested for carrying concealed weapons.

Investigators later identified Forbes as a suspect in an April 17 shooting in the 2000 block of Fifth Ave SE. The shooting injured Jerome Smallwood, 26, of Cedar Rapids, who suffered a gunshot wound to the face.

Forbes now faces several other charges, including attempted murder, first-degree robbery, willful injury and going armed with intent.

Forbes' first court appearance is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
