Super Bowl champion Harry Sydney to speak at United Way annual meeting

CEDAR RAPIDS - Former NFL running back Harry Sydney, who won two Super Bowl rings as a player for the San Francisco 49ers and another as a running backs coach for the Green Bay Packers, is the guest presenter during this year's United Way of East Central Iowa annual meeting.
The meeting takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Cedar Rapids Marriott, 1200 Collins Rd. NE. This year's theme, 'Connections: Impacting Our Community,” focuses on issues in the community in areas of education, health and financial stability.
Tickets are $30 each or $270 for a table of 10. To register by June 16, go to uweci.org/connections.
Sydney, who now lives in Green Bay, is founder of the nonprofit organization My Brother's Keeper, which provides mentoring to boys and men to gain knowledge and skills to make positive changes in their lives. He also co-hosts a sports talk radio show called 'The Fan.”
During the event, United Way also plans to kick off its 2018 campaign and announce the winners of four awards given to local volunteers and philanthropic leaders.
