Summit offers year’s free rent at NewBo City Market

CEDAR RAPIDS — A grand prize — one year’s free rent for a space at NewBo City Market — is up for grabs at the second annual Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Summit, presented by Linn Area Credit Union.

The deadline to apply for the competition is Friday, March 1.

The summit takes place on Friday, March 22, with a day of free workshops, and Saturday, March 23, for the Emerging Entrepreneur Vendor Market where participants will compete for the grand prize.

The Friday workshops include sessions where entrepreneurs can learn about making their businesses more viable. Topics range from business accounting, business banking and marketing.

On March 23, Emerging Entrepreneur finalists will participate in a guest vendor market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a pitch competition.

Judges will evaluate the finalists on several categories, including the day’s sales, merchandising and their business plan. The winner will receive a rent-free space at the NewBo City Market for a year, made possible with support from Linn Area Credit Union.

To be eligible, entrepreneurs are required to attend the Friday workshops and Saturday’s market and pitch competition.
