DERRY, Pa. (AP) - The parents of a 6-year-old western Pennsylvania boy have sued his school district because they say he was bitten by a trained service dog he was invited to pet at a school function.
Jeffrey and Denise Diss, of New Alexandria, say their son was bitten at Derry Area High School on April 5.
The couple say their son was invited to pet the dog at a booth set up by a nonprofit that trains dogs to help people with disabilities. That's when the dog bit the boy in the face.
His parents say he'll require plastic surgery because of scars that resulted from a subsequent infection.
Derry Area School District's lawyer has declined to comment. The nonprofit is also being sued.
