UPDATE: A Hawk Alert issued by the University of Iowa has been canceled, and the subject of this morning's alert has been located in Washington County, police said.
Police were unable to confirm reports of a reported armed person in City Park this morning.
The text of the alert, as sent to UI students around 10:20 a.m., read: "Report of armed subject in City Park. Remain indoors and away from area."
However, a Twitter update from University of Iowa police at 10:46 a.m.. said: "Iowa City Police advise area is clear, unable to locate subject."
Washington police say the man was found dead in Washington County. Police believe he committed suicide sometime Wednesday morning, and likely never went to Iowa City or City Park. According to police, the man liked to visit the park, which lead to the search around 9:45 am.
