UPDATE: Authorities rushed to Mount Vernon High School around noon today.
Mt. Vernon Community School Superintendent Pamela Ewell will only confirm that there was a "medical emergency" at the school involving one student.
"A staff member quickly alerted us to get a hold of local authorities and our staff were attending to the needs immediately," said Ewell.
"All of a sudden you see teachers running... you don't know what's really going on," said Mount Vernon junior Tori Parks.
Ewell would not elaborate on the student's name, age, gender, grade or medical condition. The superintendent did say that no weapons were involved and that the other students in the school are safe.
They have been in their classrooms since police and paramedics were called to the high school late this morning.
Ewell says the district plans to hold classes tomorrow as scheduled.
Police have not confirmed what happened at the school, but a patient was seen being wheeled to a medical helicopter. The helicopter took off shortly after the patient was loaded inside.
An ambulance was seen near the front entrance.
