Power out in parts of Cedar Rapids
Crews from Alliant Energy were able patch up power lines in the northeast part of Cedar Rapids and parts of Hiawatha after a severe thunderstorm that went through this afternoon caused 854 Alliant Energy customers to lose electricity.
An estimated 158 customers are out of power in Linn County as of 3 p.m. according to Alliant Energy's electrical outage summary, but it appears as of 4:45 p.m. that most have been restored.
Alliant spokesman Scott Drzycimski said they aren't sure what caused the outage during this storm, but crews aren't having to reroute energy, which means they're able to fix the problem on the site.
Drzycimski said that power should be fully restored within the next hour or two.

Afternoon thunderstorm in Cedar Rapids
Sheets of rain drenched Cedar Rapids and reduced visibility for Interstate 380 motorists to zero early Friday afternoon.
Street flooding was reported in a few locations, but most of the water ran swiftly to storm drains within about 20 minutes.
By the time this photo was shot, conditions on I-380 had improved and the sky had started to clear to the south.
