Store employees chase down thief

Employees at Jim's Foods should be credited with an assist in the arrest of a Cedar Rapids man early Thursday night.
Jason Ray Murphy, 19, of 102 Troy St. SW, tried to steal a bottle of alcohol from the 812 Eighth St. SW store by putting it down his pants. Employees tried to confront Murphy when he pulled a knife on them and ran out of the store. Employees gave chase and caught him at Eighth Street, where they sat on him until police arrived to put on the cuffs.
Murphy was taken to Linn County Jail and is being held on a $50,000 cash or surity bond. Murphy is charged with first degree robbery.
