Four people are safe, but are facing charges after authorities say they stole a boat in Clinton, went for a ride on the Mississippi River and hit a dam.
The Scott County sheriff's office says a 911 caller said the boat he was in was drifting and hit the dam late Monday.
Officials say investigators determined the four had stolen the boat and went south on the river. They got caught in the current and hit Lock and Dam 14 at Le Claire. The U.S. Corps of Engineers towed the boat to shore.
All four are charged with first-degree theft and harassment of a public official.
