State Supreme Court rejects appeal in Cedar Rapids rape case
The Iowa Supreme Court has rejected a Cedar Rapids man's appeal of his conviction in the 2007 rape of a Kirkwood Community College student.
Bruce M. Braggs, 35, is serving a 50-year sentence for second-degree sexual abuse and first-degree burglary in the June 30, 2007 incident in which he broke into the apartment of the victim, then 19. Braggs placed a blanket over the woman's face and raped her.
Braggs filed an appeal for new trial, claiming the jury's verdict was contrary to the weight of the evidence. The Supreme Court rejected his claim today without comment.
