State officials to help investigate woman found lying near Highway 6
Jun. 15, 2012 1:18 pm
Coralville police have called in agents from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation to help with a possible assault and kidnapping case.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday, an officer observed a woman lying along the south side of Highway 6 in Coralville. The woman didn't appear to be breathing or have a pulse, police said. First responders conducted CPR before transporting the woman to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Officials haven't yet identified the woman. "We still have not been able to identify her or find out what happened," said Coralville police chief Barry Bedford.
Investigators hope to learn more from the woman Friday. In limited interviews, the woman, who is believed to be around years old, told officers she had been assaulted and dumped along the side of the road. According to police, the woman doesn't know where the alleged assault took place or who was involved.
Police continue to look for a pedestrian who may have seen what happened. The man was seen walking on the north side of Highway 6, near Lowe's, shortly before the woman was found.
"That person is not a suspect or anything, we're just wanting to talk to him and see what he may have seen and what he may have noticed in that area about that time frame," Bedford said.
Iowa City investigators are also assisting with the case.
