UPDATE: No one was injured in a standoff that lasted nearly two hours Wednesday night near Kirkwood Community College, police said.
Officers in SWAT gear responded around 10:30 p.m. to 348 Grinnell St. SW at the Kirkwood Estates mobile home complex when a woman called 911 to report that her ex-boyfriend was suicidal and had a handgun. He was also reportedly drinking alcohol and had taken prescription medication, police said.
Two people were inside the residence when police arrived. The suicidal man, identified as 27-year-old Brian LeClere, came outside around 12:18 a.m. Thursday. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital to be evaluated, police said.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin, a police spokeswoman, said a handgun was recovered. She said LeClere was cooperative with officers once he came outside, and it is unknown if any charges will be filed.
