A rally tonight, organized by the Republican Part of Iowa in advance of President Obama's Iowa City visit, will stake out the territory for those opposed to the health care package championed by Obama and passed by Congress this week.
Here's a news release on the rally, from the Republican Party of Iowa:
Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn today announced that Indiana Congressman Mike Pence, the third ranking Republican in the U.S. House, will be the featured speaker at tonight's Stand Up for Freedom Rally on the eve of President Obama's Thursday visit to Iowa City.
The Stand Up for Freedom Rally is scheduled for 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, on the East Lawn of the Pentacrest at the University of Iowa. Iowans can register for the Stand Up for Freedom Rally at www.StandUp4Freedom.com. Due to the congressional schedule, Pence will address the Stand Up for Freedom Rally via Skype from Washington, DC.
Congressman Pence, who serves as Chairman of the House Republican Conference, gave a passionate speech during Sunday's debate on health care reform, concluding his remarks by saying, “We can reform health care without putting our country on a pathway toward socialized medicine. We can reform health care by giving the American people more choices, not more government. So I say to my Democratic colleagues: ‘Stand with those who have gone before and made the hard choices to defend freedom in their time. Stand with us, stand for freedom, and the American people will stand with you.'"
“I'm proud to have Congressman Pence standing with Iowans tonight and standing up against the continued assault on our personal and economic freedoms from the Obama administration and Iowa's congressional Democrats,” said Chairman Strawn.
Iowa GOP officials also announced the confirmed list of speakers at tonight's rally includes:
- Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman, House Republican Conference
- Matt Strawn, Chairman, Republican Party of Iowa
- Natalie Ginty, Univ. of Iowa College Republicans
- Brenna Findley, Candidate for Iowa Attorney General
- Rob Gettemy, Candidate for U.S. Congress
- Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Candidate for U.S. Congress
- Steve Rathje, Candidate for U.S. Congress
- Christopher Reed, Candidate for U.S. Congress
