Staff member assaulted by patient at Iowa Medical Classification Center in Coralville

The Iowa Department of Corrections is reporting that an Iowa Medical Classication Center patient assaulted a staff member on Friday morning in Coralville.
According to a department media release, at roughly 10 a.m. Friday the staff member, a female nurse, had been working at a computer terminal at the time when a patient 'entered the office and began hitting her multiple times with a closed fist.” Correctional officers and other staff responded to stop the assault as they heard noises coming from the office, according to the release.
The nurse was transported by ambulance to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic in Iowa City for treatment of her injuries. She was later released from the hospital into the care of her family later on Friday, according to the release.
According to the release, the incident remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
