Southeast Cedar Rapids home destroyed in early morning fire
Crews spent the morning on the scene of a house fire on the southeast side of Cedar Rapids. It started at about 5 a.m. Friday at 1123 21st Street SE.
Authorities say no one was home when the fire started. The owner, Carlo Brewster, 38, told investigators he had left home at about 3 a.m. for some errands. By the time he got back, the house was gone.
Brewster has some daughters who occasionally stay with him, but they weren't home at the time. As he surveyed the scene, he still had no clue as to what happened.
Authorities say the house is a total loss.
