Some Iowans will have to wait for Social Security payments
Jul. 6, 2010 6:35 pm
At least a hundred Iowans waiting on a form of Social Security payment this month will see a slight delay. Social Security officials in Kansas City said the delay involves only those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks by mail. Those who receive SSI payments by electronic deposit are not impacted.
Checks intended for recipients with addresses in Waterloo, Decorah, Sioux City and perhaps other areas got sent to the wrong post office for distribution. The long holiday weekend with no mail delivery on Monday also contributed to the delay.
Social Security officials said the missing checks were located and should be processed and delivered either Tuesday or Wednesday.
