IOWA CITY (AP) - Snow emergencies are proving profitable for Iowa City.
The city issued $38,500 in citations during two snow emergencies, one this week and another in early December.
Public Works Director Rick Fosse says this week's snow emergency, when vehicles must be moved from certain roads, resulted in 462 citations. The city issued 315 citations during the December snow emergency.
The city increased fines for snow emergency violations from $15 to $50 this year.
The money goes into the city's general fund.
