Small fire caused evacuation of Iowa City West this morn

A small kitchen fire caused students at Iowa City West High School to evacuate the building this morning.
Assistant Principal Molly Abraham said small flames were extinguished by kitchen staff around 8:15 a.m. and students were evacuated from the building for approximately 25 minutes.
The cause of the fire – that occurred near one of the cookers – is unknown, but Abraham said there was some cardboard nearby that could have been a factor.
The Iowa City Fire Department arrived to investigate shortly after the fire was put out.
No official word about the cause is available yet.
