Three people, including a baby, were taken to a hospital after a loaded trailer detached from a pickup and caused an accident Monday, police said.
Richard Raim, 51, of Springville, was northbound on East Post Road SE in a city-owned pickup when a trailer loaded with skid loader separated from it near Trailridge Road SE, police said. The skid loader hit a southbound van driven by Sarah Fopma, 42, of Marion.
Fopma's van went into the a ditch and came to rest on its side. Fopma and her children, Josephine Fopma, 15, and Julia Fopma, 2 months, all had to be extricated from the van. All three were taken to Mercy Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
Raim, who was not injured, was cited for failure to use required tow equipment.
