Strawberry Point Mayor Dale Fox confirmed Thursday that Deanna McCusker, city clerk and administrator since 2007, resigned and that Police Chief Bob Pope was fired at Wednesday night's city council meeting.
Fox said he would not elaborate on that statement in accordance with advice from the city attorney.
“No comment,” said City Council member Jackie Opperman.
The city's two-person police department sits empty with Pope's firing and the resignation on July 24 of Officer David Trumblee.
The Clayton county Sheriff's Office will provide law enforcement coverage until the city can hire a new chief, Fox said.
Assistant City Clerk Liz Jaster will serve as interim city administrator and clerk, he said.
Fox said the council went into closed session to discuss issues pertaining to McCusker and Pope.
