An alleged sexual assault on the University of Iowa campus was reported Tuesday.
The University of Iowa Police Department received a report on the alleged assault Tuesday, a news release indicates.
According to the release, the alleged sexual assault occurred over the weekend at Daum Residence Hall, and was reported by a third party. UI police say they don't yet have enough information to launch an investigation.
Police remind UI students that it is recommended that students walk in groups when possible and report crimes immediately by calling 911. If an individual cannot call 911, there are 22 emergency telephones placed around campus.
By pushing a button on the telephones, which are enclosed in blue, nine-foot-tall poles, a strobe light is illuminated at the top, allowing police officers to be summoned and dispatchers to hear the situation.
Students are also being encouraged to use NITE Ride, Cambus and other reliable transportation services and to avoid situations or circumstances that may increase the risk of their personal safety being threatened.
University of Iowa Police also offer Rape Aggression Defense courses and personal safety information through a Crime Prevention Specialist. See http://police.uiowa.edu for more information.
WhistleSAFE whistles are also available at the RVAP office, from the Main Library, at University Counseling service or any of the residence halls on campus.
If you have any information regarding this crime, call 319-335-5022 or Iowa City Crimestoppers at 319-358-TIPS. Callers to Crimestoppers with information leading to a conviction may be eligible for a reward.
Confidential victim advocacy services are available for all community members through the Rape Victim Advocacy Program's 24-hour crisis line at 319-335-6000. Visit
